“The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.” —Albert Einstein

Viva México

If the main purpose was to help people forget all the chaos and violence going on in Mexico, I must say that it was a well accomplished purpose. I have never seen an independence celebration like the one I saw last night (of course it was supposed to be unique and special due to the celebration of 200 years of independence, El Bicentenario.) But it definitely went beyond any expectation, it was a complete delight to the senses (and that was from TV, I can’t even begin to imagine what would it have been like in reality) it was a moment of exaltation and… hope, strangely enough.

I have never before felt any interest for this celebration in particular, just one more on the holiday’s calendar, I’ve never felt entitled to go downtown just to shout VIVA MEXICO!!!, see a few minutes of fireworks and then leave home with a renewed sense of patriotism that will start to fade on the next morning until the next 16 de septiembre. This was the first time I wished with all my being to be there, I wished I could shout viva Mexico! after the president’s words, I wished, I had been at least in Mexico, at any city, but in Mexico.
